The Pig that Came to the 100th Birthday Party

Carol Gerlach

There is a magical place called Ponca City, Oklahoma where I was born and went last week to visit my auntie for her 100th birthday. As a child, she had a pet pig that followed her around; and they carried on conversations together. So as we brought in the birthday cake and she blew out the candles, all of a sudden someone said here comes a pig., and there he was all 175 pounds of a gorgeous, black pig named Emmett. By the way, he was potty trained, and he wore a T-shirt that said happy birthday. You might be asking yourself what does this have to do with Art— every special event in our lives can come alive through our art. So I am inspired to write a children’s book about Emment.
